In Aid of The Prince's Trusts In Scotland

On September 4th, Edinburgh Castle provides a majestic setting for Mike Oldfield, as he performs the world premiere of 'Tubular Bells II' -- the sequel to his ground-breaking instrumental work -- Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Prince's Trusts in Scotland, for whom Fundraising Director Andrew Gibb says,

"I was absolutely delighted" when Mike Oldfield offered us the opportunity to be the beneficiaries of what will be a spectacular event and I am especially pleased that his generosity will enable The Prince's Trusts in Scotland to continue their valuable work with young Scots."

'Tubular Bells II' from Edinburgh Castle will be broadcast in its entirety that same evening by BBC 2. Oldfield elaborates on his thinking behind the concert thus: -

"I particularly wanted to do something with The Prince's Trusts because of the brilliant work they do," says Oldfield, "and when Edinburgh Castle was suggested I thought,  'perfect'. I want to make this a really inspirational occasion -- one that people will talk about for a long time to come."

The live spectacular is to go out on BBC 2 that same evening in its entirety. John Archer, Head of Music & Arts for BBC TV Scotland commented, "It's great to be doing something from Edinburgh with such international appeal. Everyone involved is tremendously excited."

Oldfield recorded the original 'Tubular Bells' as an unknown 20 year-old on a shoestring budget in 1972, it went on to sell over 16 million copies worldwide and marked the beginning of a phenomenally successful career. A string of hit solo albums followed, establishing Oldfield as one of Britain's greatest contemporary composers, while he broadened his reputation in 1984 with the Oscar-winning film-score to 'The Killing Fields'.

This year brings the release of 'Tubular Bells II', which Mike Oldfield has recorded with award-winning producer TREVOR HORN. The album - his first for WEA - will be released later this year.
